READ MORE🤔 Did You Know? Texas State Parks May Soon Be Growing!
🌳 In exciting news for all of us, Texas is considering adding 7,637 acres to its state parks! Among the proposed expansions:
• Government Canyon State Natural Area (¡San Antonio!): An additional 823 acres would offer more space for hiking and exploring, while protecting the vital Edwards Aquifer recharge zone.
• Enchanted Rock State Natural Area (Fredericksburg): A planned expansion of 3,073 acres would more than triple this park’s size, with new trails and camping options for even more visitors.
• New Park Near Garner State Park (Uvalde County): A 1,721-acre plot would provide a more natural experience, adding to the scenic Frio River area.
• Expansion Near Colorado Bend State Park (San Saba): A 2,020-acre addition across the river, possibly adding trails and camping while complementing the park’s current offerings.
As Texas continues to grow, this expansion could give locals more ways to connect with nature, meet rising demand, and preserve precious land for generations to come.
🌱Texas Nature Journal: Gregg's Mistflower
If you’re building a Texas native pollinator garden, Gregg’s Mistflower is a must-have!
Known for its soft lavender blooms, this hardy plant attracts bees and butterflies, especially the stunning Queen butterflies in the fall. Named after American explorer Josiah Gregg, this plant thrives in central Texas and does well in sun to part shade with occasional supplemental watering. It’s a wonderful ground cover option, adding a “misty” quality to your landscape, and can even help support the local ecosystem as a larval host for the Rosson’s Metalmark butterfly.
